A fire broke out near Strand Bank Road in Howrah today, spreading to multiple shops, including those in the East Bengal Market area, close to Howrah Bridge. The fire began when a gas cutter, being used to install a hoarding above a stone shop, sparked a blaze. The fire rapidly spread to adjacent stores, causing thick smoke to fill the surrounding area. Firefighters were immediately alerted, and five fire engines were dispatched to the scene. The fire was brought under control after approximately 25 minutes of firefighting efforts.

Cooling operations are currently underway to ensure no flare-ups occur. Authorities have confirmed that no casualties have been reported so far.
